First year Fashion Design students are just about to complete their first design project; Tools of the Trade. Part of the project was to start translating 2D into 3D and record this in their new workbooks created on InDesign – a 10-week journey of the Introduction into Pattern and Production with the culmination of 3 final toiles.
3D IDEAS LAB
Students were asked to bring their sketchbook with 4 interesting details from their design development to start developing patterns and prepare them for the next project when they will be creating patterns for a complete outfit.
The second session was all about sleeves. Students were again asked to bring in interesting ideas from their design development and catwalk imagery. Designers that were referenced included Delpozo and Saint Laurent. The exercise gave students the opportunity to consider their designs and their interpretation into 3D shapes. It was a great, creative day with lots of challenging ideas being produced.
