This week we held an exciting macramé workshop collaboration to all four years. This was an opportunity for students to learn some new techniques that could enhance their own design process but to also meet and chat with students from other years. It was a workshop led by an external design consultant exploring fabric embellishment and construction techniques. Heather Orr is a master of macramé and introduced students to the key structures but also to the endless possibilities they can then achieve through materials, colour, pattern and form. They were also introduced to foiling and adding different elements to the macramé such as beading, straws and curtain hooks. Students also started to consider the versatility of the process and how they could use recycled yarn cut from their own no longer needed knitwear. Students produced some fantastic work and many were keen to continue the process into their own work.
