UCA Rochester had it’s catwalk show on day one of Graduate Fashion Week. The venue was packed to the rafters, clearly word had got out that it was not to be missed! The show profiled the work of twelve of our talented Fashion Design students amongst students from Fashion Textiles and Fashion Atelier. The collections were incredibly strong, showing a diversity of styles and really celebrating the individuality of our students. Our reputation for clever cutting was very evident but this year we have witnessed an emergence of amazing fabric development techniques and embellishment with innovative knitting, weaving, printing, embroidery and laser cutting.
It was also great to see a sense of fun coming through with humorous slogans and hot dog shaped trousers in Verity Esaw’s American advertising inspired collection and garments displaying giant eyeballs and huge claws in Tian Yun Xu’s ‘Monster’ collection. The talents of Lauren Pullen and Maurice Connolly were spotted by the GFW judges and were put forward for the first selection round for the final gala. Maurice managed to get into the final twenty five best collections and went into the gala shows which was attended by some of the most important names in British Fashion including journalist Suzy Menkes and designers Holly Fulton and Roland Mouret.
